EXCEL: Set up a budget spreadsheet

Use Excel to create calculating spreadsheets by using formulas applied to data contained inside cells. Also, make use of the many free templates that are available from Microsoft Office Online.

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. From inside a blank Excel worksheet, click the Office Button > click New.
  3. From the Microsoft Office Online section at the left click Budgets > click Home Budgets. You will see a number of template options.
  4. Click to select the worksheet of your choice, and then click the Download button at the bottom right.
  5. Make any changes necessary, then input your personal budget information.
  6. Save the file.
