Patrons can place Inter-Library Loan requests with Library staff for books that are unavailable at the Trail & District Public Library. It is recommended that Library users search the Library Catalogue prior to requesting an Inter-Library Loan.
Inter-Library Loans are borrowed for patrons from other libraries in British Columbia.
Requests may be placed for titles that are held in other libraries, where the copyright date of the book is over one year old.
A useful tool for searching for what titles are held in other libraries in the Province of B.C. is the Outlook Online database.
If you think a title might be of interest to other library users, you can make a suggestion that the Library purchase a title. Suggestion to Purchase forms are available to download in pdf format (144 KB).
Anyone with a current Trail & District Public Library card can request an Inter-Library Loan. There is a limit of 3 active loans at any one time, and a limit of 15 books on the same subject or by the same author per patron per year.
Generally, there is no charge for Inter-library Loans. However, some Colleges and Universities do charge a fee, and these are passed on to the patron making the request.
Overdue fines for Inter-library Loans are 50¢ per day. Patrons who make a request but do not pick up the book when it comes into the library will be charged $2.00 per title.
