Collection Resource Information

Books

The Library maintains a comprehensive collection of recreational, educational and self-help books for people of all ages and reading levels. Online reference databases that are available include the World Book Encyclopedia, the Encyclopedia of British Columbia, and the Auto Repair Reference Centre.

Magazines and Newspapers

The Library has about 70 subscriptions to a variety of Canadian, American and International magazines, and a number of Canadian newspapers. See also our online subscriptions to EBSCO and Proquest.

Government Documents

The Library has an extensive collection of B.C. Government Documents that includes an electronic subscription to QP Legaleze (accessible from within the Library only) and links to government websites. The Library is a Selective Depository for Federal Documents. In addition, we have a wide selection of local government information.

Microfilm

The Trail newspaper is available on microfilm for the years 1896 to 2006. The Canadian Census for British Columbia is also available for the years 1881, 1891, and 1901.

Videos and DVDs

Included in our large video collection are classic movies, children's animation, sports, health and how-to videos, and a large number of educational videos perfect for students and family viewing.

Music

A wide variety of musical styles are available in compact disc formats. Musical styles available in the library include: Classical, Opera, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Country, Pop, and music for Children.

Audiobooks

Spoken-word cassettes- including foreign language tapes for travelers and language students.
Compact discs
Talking books - an unabridged collection of cassettes for those with print disabilities. Talking Book Eligibility forms can be downloaded in pdf format (140 KB).
DAISY books - This rotating collection of DAISY audio books is available for people with print disabilities and is provided by the assistance of the Visunet Canada Partners Program - a new partnership between the CNIB and the BC public libraries. DAISY books must by played in a DAISY player, which the library has available for loan. DAISY Audio Book Eligibility forms can be downloaded in pdf format (140 KB).

Special Print Collections

The Library has a number of special collections for use by the community:

Large Print Books - an excellent selection of fiction, mysteries, westerns and non-fiction titles are available in large-print type.
Literacy Materials - Workbooks, audio-cassettes and manuals are available for new readers and literacy tutors.
Local History - Many hard-to-find titles dealing with Trail, Rossland, and West Kootenay history are available. Most can be borrowed, but some may only be used in the library.
Books in Other Languages - A select number of titles are available in other languages including French and Italian.
