Year in Review
Said goodbye to Joy Huebert, Library Director since 1999 and welcomed Heather Maisel as the new Library Director.
Coordinated the third annual Let's Read Festival with many events in April.
Participated in the BC OneCard initative, allowing BC residents to use any public library in the province.
Waived fines for students for two months through Every Child a Card Program.
Built the Director's office, resulting in a more attractive children's area.
Installed an automatic door for the entrance.
Opened on Sundays during November and December.
Participated in Success By 6, Literacy Now, and other community projects, created connections and partnerships that benefited the whole community.
Adult Programs
The third annual Let's Read Festival sponsored by FortisBC was a success. Highlights included a Writers' Friendship Evening and a reading by Nelson author, Anne DeGrace.
Saltspring Island novelist, Kathy Page, held a reading from her book Alphabet in September.
Adrian Kalarko from the University of Calgary held a meteorite identification workshop in August.
A workshop on Introductory Stonemasonry was held in April.
Children's Programs
In addition to our regular programs we:
Participated in Ready Start Read in two elementary schools.
Held a Success by 6 Children's Book Giveaway at the Library.
Gave an Every Child Ready to Read @your Library Workshop.
Took popular author Nikki Tate to Glenmerry Elementary School.
Held library programs for Destiny Christian Academy and Home Schoolers.
Ran a contest to encourage children and teens to get Library Cards.
